Strength in the Storm – Literally

Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

A little over two months ago my wife Stephanie and I were so excited. We had bought a new house and the house was located on a lake on the edge of town. This would be the first summer Stephanie wasn’t working or taking classes and we would be able to spend so much time together enjoying our new house, the water and all the activities that go along with it. Then it started to rain!

I literally mean rain and rain and rain and rain. Now, the river that is located over a mile away, has come out of it’s banks, and is flowing into the lake we live on. Water is every where including our crawl space and right up to the steps of our deck. We have decided against swimming in the lake because of all the run off from fields has brought in who knows what. Our excitement of the summer has turned to wondering when the rain will stop and when the water will quit rising.

For someone who struggles with worrying and trusting this time has been very trying for me. I have done what I can to try not to focus on the possibilities if it continues to rain for the next two weeks like they are predicting.  I have tried not to play out scenarios in my mind of what we would do if this or that happens.

Today I remembered the above verse from Isaiah. I have read it already a couple times and will continue to say it when my mind tries to go to the worry and fearful places the events around us are causing. Who knows what will happen tomorrow, next week or the week after that regarding the rain, water level and our house. I do know however that God has a plan. Although it doesn’t make sense to me and it may mean things happening that I don’t want to, I do not have to be afraid because I can find strength knowing that he has everything under control. He will hold us up above whatever the rising water may cause.

I know there are many who are dealing with much worse situations because of the flooding already. I can’t imagine what you are going through and dealing with! Please know that myself and many others are lifting you up in prayers! May you turn to God during this time of distress and find peace and comfort knowing that he is walking through this with you!
