Dream, But Do Now!

It has been a few weeks since I posted a new devotional. The last time I posted I talked about God sized dreams and told you that I would share my wife and my dream with you so here goes. I hope you will add this to your prayer list.

I grew up in a family that was full of love. My parents loved me and told me that every day. They provided me a safe and comfortable life. I grew up with thinking everyone lived that way. When I went to church camp one year there was a boy there my age who said his dad had never told him he loved him. I didn’t believe him and couldn’t imagine that a dad would be that way. Then when I started teaching junior high I had a student that did so well in class except one day we took a test and he bombed it. I went and talked to the principal and told her something had to be wrong. The principal told me the students dad hadn’t come home for the past three days. It was then that I really started to realize not everyone grew up like I did. I think it would be hard for many to believe some of the things that kids who walk into my classroom have to deal with. My heart breaks for these kids and families that have to deal with such difficult situations.

A scripture that rings loud to me is Matthew 25:37-39 37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

Through out scripture we are told to take care of the poor and those in need. Stephanie and I would like to be able to do this. Our dream is to some day build a couple small homes to allow people who are going through a difficult time a place to get back on their feet. We would live next to them and be able to help them and point them to the greatest help there is, our Lord and Savior!

We know this would be a huge undertaking but we know our God is bigger than any obstacle that may stand in our way. Right now we pray and plan what we would do for the people God would send our way. We aren’t waiting until this happens to help people. We try to help people we know are going through difficult time right now in ways that we are able to.

Don’t wait for God to do something big in your life before you help others. Do what you can where you are now. While doing that, dream big! Find something you can work towards as a way to touch other people and point them to Christ.
