Luke 12:43 It will be good for that servant whom the master finds doing so when he returns.
There is one question I remember spending a lot of time thinking about when I was in my teenage years, “What will I be doing when Jesus comes back.” I know there is no guarantee that He will return during my life time but I used to often wonder what I would be doing if he was to come back. There were even times during my teenage years when I thought about what some of my classmates did and the thought, “what if Jesus comes back while I was doing that” popped into my head. Don’t get me wrong, I was still a teenage kid and did my share of dumb things without really thinking it through.
As I read this verse online and highlighted it I thought for a minute, man what if every Christian would run their choices and their decisions through the filter of, is this something I would want to be doing when Jesus comes back. I know God knows all and sees all and we don’t hide anything from Him at any time. However, the idea of him “catching us red handed” when he comes back doing something we shouldn’t be doing is pretty powerful.
What is it that you would like to be doing when Jesus returns? Teaching a Sunday School class? Witnessing to someone? Helping the poor or needy? You can probably come up with a long long list of things that would be really cool to be doing when He comes back. On the flip side we can probably come up with a really long list of things we for sure don’t want to be doing when He comes back. Be honest and ask yourself though, are any of those on that list things that you do sometimes? Are those things a part of your life?
We choose what we spend our time doing. We decide the impact we have on the people around us and how we choose to treat them. We are every day given a choice as to what we do that day. The question I want you to ask yourself today as you make those choices is simple, “Is this something I would want to be doing when Jesus comes back.” If it is than, get after it and do it the best that you can! If it isn’t, than maybe you need to spend some time in prayer and decide if there is a better choice for you to make! Remember, He is coming back!
