Isaiah 64:8 What are you filled with?

Isaiah 64:8   Yet you, Lord, are our Father.  We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.

Ok I know what you are thinking….”Matt you have already used this scripture!” You are right I have. I wrote about God being the potter and we are the clay. I talked about him molding us into what he wants us to be. However this week I have thought about this verse again. Not because of the molding that is taking place in my life but because what he is molding me into. A potter makes what…..a pot. I have read and thought about pots this week. Not the dirty ones left from supper that still need to be washed. The pot that Jesus molds and makes us into so that we can be used by Him.

Each of us is a pot that God has created. The important thing is what is inside of our pot! No one’s pot is empty. Oh they may seem or feel like they are empty and if that is the case it is probably because they are not filled with the Holy Spirit! If you have never accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior and do not have a personal relationship with Him then you probably have a pot that feels empty! You probably feel like you are always searching for something to fill your pot, to fill that emptiness or longing, or hurting you carry with you.

We are created to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Paul tells us in Ephesians 5:18 to “be filled with the Spirit” When we give our life to Christ we are filled with the Holy Spirit.

What is cool to me is that Jesus is in the filling business! Look at his first miracle. The wedding party ran out of wine. He said to fill the pots with water and he turned it into wine. Through Elisha He turned a little oil into enough to fill many pots. To a group of thousands he filled them just a little bread and some fish! He wants us to be filled!

As I think of that I think of three things….

1.) Are you filled with the Holy Spirit?!?!
Has there been a time when you have surrendered your life to Christ?
Have you prayed and accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior?
If you have, Praise God! If you haven’t then I pray you will. Until you do your pot will never be truly filled!

2.) If you have accepted Jesus as your savior, what are you filling your pot with? Our lives can get so busy and so crazy that we can fill out pots with so much “stuff.” The problem is most of the stuff we fill our pots with isn’t really that important. I am as guilty as most. We can try to fill our pots with our work, friends, relationships, hobbies, etc… Until we realize all of these things are just temporary and realize our focus needs to be on the eternal we will have a pot filled with “stuff.” Daily we need to be making time to fill our pots with Him!!! Read his word, pray, study and you will be amazed how your heart will be changed and your pot filled!

3.) Pots are made for holding things. We need to hold on to Christ, BUT very seldom does a pot just hold stuff. Eventually the pot is used as a pouring utensil too. As Christians we need to be pouring into the lives of others! We need to be praying for others, reaching out to others, looking for God to use the blessings inside of our pots to impact others for Him! If you spend time with Christ daily, wonderful!!! However, are you pouring all he is filling you with out to others? Are you sharing Him with the people you come into contact with? Be the pot God has created you to be and allow Him to fill you!

God Bless & May God Be Glorified!!!
