The Great Physician!

Matthew 9:12 On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.

This week brought some exciting news to our family, my wife Stephanie was accepted into Nursing School. This is a huge step for her and for our family. I am so excited to see what God has in store for her and our family during her time in school and afterwards. Stephanie has wanted to be a nurse for so many years and I am so glad I can share in this experience with her. She has such a huge heart for people. She wants to help people who are hurting and who are in need. She has a real love for them and wants to live out God’s command to “Love others as I have loved you.”

Thinking about all of this brought to mind the verse above from Matthew. Jesus disciples were asked by the Pharisees why does Jesus eat with tax collectors and sinners. Jesus knew what they were saying when he responded, “it is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.” It makes perfect sense doesn’t it? People who are healthy don’t go to see the doctor. I don’t like going to see a doctor when I am sick I certainly do not want to go see one when I am healthy. Doctors, and nurses, need to be where people who are sick are.

As Christians we should have the same attitude of doctors and nurses. We should want to help people who are spiritually sick! People who are lost! Sadly, we often forget there are so many out there in need and that we can help Jesus meet their needs by sharing Him with them. We go to church, bible study, grow groups, retreats, conferences, often surrounded by other Christians. Don’t get me wrong, spending time around others encouraging, strengthening and growing together is awesome. However, we need to go to the sick! We need to look outside of our church group and look for opportunities to reach out to the lost with the Love of Christ!

I have a question for you, “When is the last time you talked to someone outside one of your church groups about Jesus?” Sadly my answer to that question isn’t what it should be! I challenge you to answer that question honestly and then look for ways that you can improve in this area. Spend time praying about it and reading scripture about sharing God’s Word! Then do it!

I know what some of you may be thinking…but how do I know who is lost and who isn’t, only God knows their heart! You’re right, so you will have to do some talking and find out! Only then will you know if you have met a brother or sister in Christ or if God is opening a door for you to witness to a lost soul.

Can you imagine a doctor or nurse getting a call that someone was sick and dying and they ignore it and go off and do their own thing? Is that how we answer the call from Jesus when he says, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.” As Christians it is time we start stepping up and speaking out!

Maybe you are spiritually sick/lost. Maybe you have never accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior. It is time to go to the “Great Physician” and be spiritually healed and saved! Maybe you need to reach out to someone who can help you, or a pastor you know, or you can click on the email at the bottom this page so I can contact you and help guide you! I am praying for you!
